GreenPod

A low-cost, plug-and-play smart greenhouse.

A complete IoT product: ESP32 hardware with sensors, custom firmware, an Android and iOS mobile app, a sales and inventory back office, and subscription payments. Plug it in, scan a QR code and it is up and running.

The problem

Growing at home with climate control is expensive and technical: existing kits require knowledge of electronics and networking.

The solution

A device you set up from your phone, no computer needed. The app reads a QR code, provisions the device WiFi, and from then on shows live telemetry, alerts and growing profiles.

My role

Built the entire product: hardware, firmware, backend, mobile app, back office and payment integrations.

How it's built

ESP32 firmware

C++ with PlatformIO: built-in access point, provisioning portal, per-device secret stored in NVS, reconnection watchdog and MQTT telemetry.

Cross-platform app

Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform for Android and iOS, with deep links, push notifications and in-app purchases.

IoT bridge

Edge Functions that receive events from the MQTT broker (device status, sensors, telemetry) and push them to the database in real time.

Payments and marketplace

Flow.cl and Mercado Pago integrations: subscriptions, one-off payments, coupons, webhooks and a pack store with geolocated delivery.

Highlights

  • WiFi provisioning without a computer: QR with serial and secret, device access point and an authenticated HTTP API.
  • Factory device registration: each ESP32 derives its id from its MAC address and registers itself in the inventory.
  • Nuxt back office for sensor inventory, pack models, sales, shipping and QR credentials.
  • Growing profiles with physical ranges per sensor, plus alerts when a plant goes out of range.
  • Purchase tracking and device status notifications.
